| Summary/Description | The photo depicts an auction held May 15th-16th, 1905, for the purpose of selling lots within Clark's Las Vegas Townsite. A group of men and two women are standing on and around a covered wooden platform outdoors. The auctioneer is standing to the left of center at the front of the platform. ; The decision to auction the lots within Clark's Las Vegas Townsite was not made until May 10, 1905, prompted by the numerous requests for land. Auctioneer C.O. Whittemore was the president of the Las Vegas Land and Water Company. Results from the first day of the auction as described by Whittemore in a telegram: "Sales today of blocks one, two, fifteen, sixteen, eighteen and west half of seventeen aggregate seventy nine thousand five hundred and sixty five dollars. |
