Myra Berkovits

Myra Berkovits (née Mosse, 1944- ) is an education specialist at the Sperling Kronberg Mack Holocaust Resource Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. She has been involved in Holocaust education since 1994 and was trained at Yad Vashem in Israel and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. Berkovits and the Holocaust Resource Center work in conjunction with the Governor's Advisory Council on Education Relating to the Holocaust, the Clark County School District (CCSD), the Washoe County School District, and other rural school districts in the State of Nevada, the Holocaust Survivors Group of Southern Nevada, and multiple other local and national organizations. Over the last 18 years, Berkovits has been active in planning the Holocaust Education student-teacher conferences for the Clark County School District.  She was actively involved in documenting stories of Holocaust survivors living in Las Vegas for the Shoah Foundation in the early 90s.

 

Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Berkovits moved to Las Vegas in 1980. In 1982 she bought the Las Vegas Menu Review (LVMR), a restaurant promotion company that she managed for eight years while also writing articles about dining for the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Three years after selling the Las Vegas Menu Review she created a short-lived competitor called Las Vegas Dine Direct. In the early 1990s Berkovits left the private sector to renew her teaching license at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). She later earned a master’s degree in Educational Supervision from the University of Phoenix. Berkovits taught in the Clark County School District during the 1990s and from 1999 to 2013 she served as the administrator of Title I HOPE (Homeless Outreach Program for Education), which was the District's homeless outreach program for children living in Clark County.
