The collection is comprised of operational records and research primarily created by WOD's founder, Dr. Marlene Adrian. The records represent the organization's work in publishing, creating documentaries, and organizing events highlighting the history and achievements of women in Nevada's history.

Valerie Wiener Papers

Abstract

The Valerie Wiener Papers (approximately 1920-2023) document the life and career of former Nevada state senator, Valerie Wiener. Materials document her political career serving in the Nevada State Senate and working as the press secretary for Harry Reid congressional offices. The collection also includes materials that represent Wiener's work as a communications specialist through her consulting businesses and her nonprofit work. Other materials in this collection document Wiener's personal life including her childhood and family, educational experiences, and her spiritual practice.

Jennifer Lanahan oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Jennifer Lanahan conducted by Jerwin Tiu on September 11, 2023 for Reflections: the Las Vegas Asian American and Pacific Islander Oral History Project. Born in Daegu, South Korea, Jennifer Lanahan fondly remembers her childhood growing up in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Lanahan had been adopted at a young age and grew up aware of this fact, but never felt different from her family because of it. Her father, with Irish roots, was a retired military sergeant for the U.S. Air Force. While her mother, with German roots, spent her time volunteering at veterans hospitals.

Gene Kilroy oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Gene Kilroy conducted by Claytee White on October 18, 2021 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. Kilroy begins by discussing being born in a mining camp and his grandmother being an important figure in his life. Throughout the interview, Kilroy discusses working at various places on the Las Vegas Strip, including the Dunes Hotel and MGM Grand and meeting many famous people. He discusses the military being an important part of his life, as well as his time playing professional football for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Cultural Focus Tours Research Notes

Abstract

The Cultural Focus Tours Research Notes (1989-1990) contain background information about historical locations and topics in Las Vegas's history used by Cultural Focus Tours, a division of the Allied Arts Council of Nevada. Cultural Focus Tours, developed by historic preservationist Elizabeth von til Warren, provided tours of historic landmarks around Las Vegas, Nevada including the Hoover Dam, Nevada Test Site, Valley of Fire, Old Spanish Trail, and the Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort. Materials also include the 40th anniversary issue of the Las Vegas Sun newspaper.

Robert Lang Professional Papers

Abstract

The Robert Lang Professional Papers (1976-2020) mainly contain urban planning research and reports from former University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) professor and public policy expert Robert Lang. Materials represent different public policy related projects and issues Lang worked on when he was employed with the Fannie Mae Foundation in Washington, D.C., and Brookings Mountain West and the Lincy Institute at UNLV. Materials also include Lang's teaching files which include course syllabi, class presentation slides, and course readers.
