Full Text

He is a young fellow about 23 or 25. There was another man working with him. Jack and I only had a light dinner and had brought nothing with us. We got to the strike about half an hour before dark. Thought we would have to make a bed of pine limbs abd get our supper when we got back to Camp next day. But Carpenter took us in and we had supper with him and he divided his bedding with us. His camp was about 2600 feet above where out camp was at mouth of Canyon. It got pretty cold up there. There was a half gallon bucket of water standing out side the tent and it froze solid. We had a blanket each and rolled up in them n the ground in the tent. They did not have a stove. Did all their cooking on a small fire outside the tent. I woke up the next morning feeling fine. We had breakfast with the boys and then started out to see what we could find. Located 3 claims near him. So I can say I dine and slept with a millionarie. His property is worth ten million at least and he has 1/3 of interest. He is a fine fellow. Is not at all excited over his good luck. Jack and I started out in different directions earley that morning and I only saw two men until I got back in to camp about 3:30. [Had?] nothing to eat or drink since we left the breakfast. We had left our canteens back to Lovelocks. We camped at Boyer and did not go the bed until late. I sit out by the camp fire
