TOPOGRAPHYMIDNIGHT FRACTION: This claim lying on the east slope ofBlack Butte Peak slopes gently to the east; it is marked by outcroppings of dacite in the northern and upper portion and by outcropping of a large quartz vein following closely but well within the west side line. The balance of the claim is covered with wash and soil but nowhere cut with any deep cuts PAWNEE: This claim lies along a ridge of andesite cut by siliceous veins which outcrop boldly and irregularly over the entire claim.GEOLOGYThe zone of most intense mineralization in this district is in a belt of varying width of horseshoe shape its open end being to the east, where no discoveries of importance have as yet been made, its toe being along the Columbia Mountain Fault with a somewhat northerly and southerly direction about one mile west of Range line 42-43 for two miles north from Township line 2-3; its southern side extending from Columbia Moun-tain on the west to Black Cap Mountain on the east and its nor-thern side from the neighborhood of the Conqueror Mining Company property on the west to Black Butte and Red Mountain on the east.It is within this belt of alunitic alteration that practically all of the ore produced in the district has been mined and the ledges within this belt which have produced this ore have most often been found in DACITE formation within 150 feet of the surface, extending through it to the underlyinglatite and through this to the Cambrian shale or -Alaskite.-3-
