THE HAYES-MONNETTE LEASE ON THE MOHAWKMessrs. Hayes, Monnette, Smith and Benedict at the No. 1 ShaftA. rare evidence of the way in which rich success so often crowns seeming failure in the industry of mining is displayed in the Hayes and Monnette lease on the Mohawk. The ground was leased September 9, 1905. to G. H. Hayes. M. J. Monnette and J. W. Smith, H. Benedict bought a three-fourths interest, and work began on September 10. On the 12th day of April, 1906, the lease had cost the four men $26,000. On that day an assay better than the general average was returned.. The 18th day of April witnessed the first shipment. The entire output up to September 18th has been $500,000, and there is no doubt that during the balance of the lease this will probably be increased to over $1,500,000. The leasers have completed 2,000 feet of work and are at this time employing about 100 men.Shaft No. 2 of the Hayes-Monnette Lease
