TRANSLATION. Caliente, July 9, 22. A.S. Halsted and C.P. Smith. C-597. Have had no word from Halsted. Even with the additional guard requested by Carey when we replace men here strikers will probably enter yards and attempt to take them out which will mean force against force, as our men are not deputized and are unarmed. Not sufficient grounds here as yet to procure injunction from Federal Court as we have had no overt act or threat of violence or destruction of property but probably could secure injunction as strikers have gathered on our property here and intimidated employees. No doubt sufficient cause to secure injunction both grounds Las Vegas. If injunction requested it should be in Federal Court Carson City and complaint should be prepared in Los Angeles where they have data on names of head orders and we can furnish names of prominent strikers here and from Las Vegas who should be joined as defendants. Not advisable in my judgement for me to leave here now or for Leo to leave Las Vegas. Has appeal been made to Governor Boyle for protection and if so what result. Very urgent that injunctive or other relief be furnished quickly as we are isolated and without adequate protection. Original to WCH, copy to ASH, CPS. M-102. F.R. McNamee
