Walter R. Bracken letter to F. H. Knickerbocker, April 23, 1925

April 23, 1925. Mr. F. H. Knickerbocker, Gen. Mgr. U. P. System, L.A. & S.L. R.R. Co. Los Angeles, Cal. Dear Sir: There seems to be a current report among some of the Big Four employees that the Treasury Department of the L.A. & S.L. R.R. contemplate the discontinuing of the practise which has been in vogue for a number of years in sending to the First State Bank the checks of all employees who desire their pay checks handled in this manner. I hasten to write you concerning this change as I believe it would be a very material change for the worse and not for the better, as all of the checks that are sent through request from the Treasurer's Office for deposit in the Bank are immediately subject to their check as also that of their wives and were a great many of these checks to be given to the individual at first, in my opinion, they would be lost over the gambling table before the wife had a chance to obtain any part of the same. If this plan has not been put in force, I would respectfully ask that you defer doing so until I can have personal talk with both you and Mr. Truelsen within the next few days. Yours truly,Vice-President & Agent. WRB/MC
