Walter J. K. Bracken letter to William A. Clark, January 25, 1905

Las Vegas, Nev. Jan. 25th 1905.Hon. W. A. Clark,49 Wall St, New York City. Dear Senator.-Before matters are fully settled in reference to Las Vegas Rancho I have a suggestion to offer for your consideration. Why would it not be a good and profitable plan to make an ideal town of this? Adopt one uniform style of architecture, say the Mission, and have all buildings conform to that. It seems to me feasible and could apply to buildings at any cost and for all purposes. The company could either construct all buildings, and sell or lease them, or make, some agreement when lot is sold for archi-tecture of house. You know what a conglomeration of architecture and buildings a new town usually has, and how unsightly most of them are. in this climate adobe or concrete buildings are most comfor-table, and will be quite as cheap as any other. Then such a town would be the biggest and cheapest advertisement your road could have. You know how the model town of Pullman is talked about, and as this is the best advertised oasis on the American Desert should you plan and construct such a town it would be known and talked of the country over. As you own everything here there could not be another building in sight of where trains stop, and all conditions of water, adobe soil etc are favorable. Trusting you will givethis favorable consideration, I am Very truly yours,J.K.W. Brackenc/c JRC
