On our way home from the meetings that year, we stopped off in Washington. The evening we arrived, Mrs. Herbert Hoover asked us to dine with them. Mr. Hoover, a classmate of Hugh’s at Stanford, had been appointed Food Administrator for the United States; one of the men he had selected to join his staff was J. C. Campbell, Hugh’s former partner, and several of the other guests that night were known to Hugh from his Stanford days.
