Abstract

[This collection is closed. See Access Note for additional information.] The Oscar B. Goodman Papers (1888-2020) are comprised of records produced by Oscar Goodman from his time as a criminal defense lawyer in Las Vegas, Nevada. This includes working, legal, and evidence files from his own individual practice and his time as a partner at various law firms. The collection contains case files, wiretap tapes and transcripts, administrative files, and files relating to the legal affairs of his wife, Carolyn Goodman. The collection also contains the working files of David Chesnoff, lawyer and Goodman's former legal partner.

Making appearances in the segments are: Charo, Elvis impersonators, glimpses of Las Vegas Showgirls, Bette Midler, Mayor Oscar Goodman, Donny and Marie Osmond, a segment at the Stiletto Spy School, and Pure Nightclub bartender shows how to mix a martini. The Today Show presenters in the video: Matt Lauer, Meredith Vieira, Amy Robach, Natalie Morales, Al Roker, and Ann Curry.

Temple Beth Sholom organized and led a bus tour of parts of Las Vegas that are significant in local Jewish history. UNLV Special Collections and Archives staff took photos and video on this tour, and the video was later transcribed. Stops on the tour included Woodlawn Cemetery and the former Temple Beth Sholom campus on Oakey Boulevard. Narrator Arlene Blut gives the overview of the Jewish community, and Rabbi Felipe Goodman talks to tour participants at the cemetery. Former Las Vegas mayor Oscar Goodman speaks at the old synagogue along with Josh Abbey, whose mother created the stained glass windows at the temple.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Heidi Sarno Straus conducted by David Schwartz on October 03, 2008 for the Remembering Jay Sarno Oral History Interview. In this interview, Straus discusses her upbringing in Las Vegas, Nevada and her experience as the daughter of Jay Sarno. She remembers living at the Circus Circus Hotel and Casino, Tanya the Elephant performances, and the Flying Cavarettas trapeze acts. Straus describes her father’s relationship with Steve Wynn and Oscar Goodman, and his vision for the future of Las Vegas hotel and casinos.
