Nancy Siegert Shepherd oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Nancy Siegert Shepherd conducted by Claytee D. White on October 22, 2024 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. Shepherd recalls growing up in Illinois with her family and attending Catholic mass services. Shepherd attended Northwestern University where she met her current husband during her freshman year and married after graduation. She recalls relocating several times with her husband to accommodate her husband John's beginning medical practice in ophthalmology.

The Steve Lawrence and Edyie Gormé Papers (approximately 1946-2014) are comprised of photographs, promotional material, certificates, musical arrangements, song catalogs, documentation for their "One More for the Road Tour" (2004-2006), correspondence with celebrities and family members, and some personal papers from their childhood.

Siegfried Haderly oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Siegfried Haderly conducted by Stefani Evans on October 30, 2024 for Reflections: the Las Vegas Asian American and Pacific Islander Oral History Project. In this interview, Haderly recalls his childhood in Manila, Philippines until his parents separated, his mother's move to the United States, and Haderly's move to join her in Las Vegas, Nevada after graduating high school. He describes working first as a dishwasher, and then as a busboy for various hotel/casinos including the Sahara, Desert Inn, and Sands.

Marta and Pedro Ortiz Family Papers

Abstract

The Maria and Pedro Ortiz Family Papers (approximately 1950-2024) contain documents, photographs, and oral histories that document the Ortiz family's experience as a migrant family living in Southern Nevada. The photographs depict family gatherings, celebrations, work life as migrant farm laborers, and the Moapa Valley region of Nevada.

Jany Ortiz-Robinson Papers

Abstract

The Jany Ortiz-Robinson Papers (1984-2020) contain the papers of Ortiz-Robinson, who has worked in Nevada's early childhood education field for over twenty years. The collection mainly consists of awards and certificates awarded to Ortiz-Robinson over her career, from various organizations including the Economic Opportunity Board of Clark County, The Nevada Registry, Clark County School District, and the Nevada Association of the Education of Young Children.

Robert MacKenzie Papers [UNPROCESSED]

The Robert MacKenzie Papers (approximately 1940-2000) contain the personal papers of Robert MacKenzie and materials documenting the long-term effects of atomic testing. The collection contains photographs, material documenting the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act deals, surveys about veterans and their children with diseases, letters and correspondence, audiovisual material, and original drawings and cartoons of ships drawn by MacKenzie.

Las Vegas Ambassadors Collection

Abstract

The Las Vegas Ambassadors Collection (1968-1985) primarily consists of a scrapbook, newspaper articles, and photographs documenting the activities of the Las Vegas Ambassadors youth singing group. The materials were compiled by Harry LaFavor, the Ambassadors' business manager, who co-founded the group with Norman Kaye and Richie Astone to promote a positive image of Las Vegas. The collection also includes a songbook, vinyl record and ¼” tape recording, and promotional materials.
