January 26, 2000 Mr. Drai Commission for Indemnization of Jewish Victims 66 Rue de Belle Chasse 75007, Paris France Dear Mr. Drai, My cousin, Maurice Halfon Behar, was born in Biarritz on August 27, 1938 and lived with his parents Isaac and Fortune Halfon in Bayonne until they were deported to Auschwitz on January 20, 1944. They lived in an apartment at 4 Rue Gambetta, Bayonne. He then stayed with the landlady (a hidden child?) for 4 years until he was sent to the United States to live with relatives when he was eight years old. He has never received any reparations when the apartment, its contents etc. were seized. His father was a merchant in the import-export business. The house contained paintings, antiques, gold, silver, diamonds, rugs, jewelry which all were taken. Unfortunately the woman who cared for Maurice, Suzanne Casseaux, died years ago. We have copies of the ?Abtransport? for January 20, 1944. The Halfons were in convoy #66.which we are enclosing. Please tell us how to proceed with this claim. Sincerely, Gloria Behar Gottsegen Telephone 561/487-0980 Fax 954/733-1685 Email GGOTTSEGEN@aol.com
