ANNUAL REPORT 2006-2007 MISSION STATEMENT Since our last Annual Meeting we have moved into our beautiful new home in Henderson. During ??. the transition time we did not miss a beat. Our Congregation supported the King David location. _.._._,? ? Week after week we had a full house and a varied Shabbat program including the introduction of "Shabbat Unplugged", a new musical service in addition to our already popular Shabbatone service. And we were able to have a wonderful year in religious school using Gibson and Ober public schools as site locations. Throughout all this transition our membership remained steady and our Rabb, attendance at events was strong. I was very proud of the support given by our Congregation. Sanfon lksetrad The year to come will present it's own special challenges. We hope to launch several new programs for young adults and mature adults. Israeli Dancing has quickly become very popular at our Shabbat services and we hope to offer it at other times as well. Perhaps even an "Israeli Cafe"? We have jump started our Chavurah program and revitalized our committees. We hope also to begin integrating some technological changes to our Temple . Music will be heard constantly in the environment surrounding our new home to reinforce the specialness of coming to Temple. Webcasting of Shabbat services and a more interactive website are also not too far off in our future. In short, lots of new faces, lots of new ideas, lots of changes. But it is all to the good! Thank you again for bearing with us during this transition year. I hope that you will continue to spread the word of all the wonderful things happening at our Temple, and that as always we continue to be "a special place to belong." What a year!!! The biggest news that I have to report is that the move was accomplished with out too much trouble or pain and over all we are utilizing our new facility to bring great programming to all of our congregants. As I continue to lead this board through the end of the year, we are focused on two very important tasks: (1) Create great programming for all ages. Programming that happens simultaneously in the building with a variety of choices for everyone. (2) Provide a happy and hard working staff that works to help guide and answer all of our congregants needs. ,vfarlaLetizia It is hard to believe that my reign as your president will be ending in just 6 months from now. rresident Part of my goal is to accomplish two large goals before I leave office. One of those is to institute name tags for all of our congregants so we can all begin to know each other better. And, the other is to begin a tradition of a Friday night Shabbat dinner that we can all be a part of in our social hall. The goal would be to have a dinner that all congregants can make a reservation for either on-line or by calling the office by a deadline of either Wednesday close of business or Thursday afternoon. At the time of reservation your credit card will be charged. Then there will be no more rushing to have dinner before services. The largest part of my annual report is to say thank you for all that each and everyone of you contribute to making CNT "A special place to belong"!. ? The mission of Congregation Ner Tamid is to provide meaningful religious services, life-long Jewish learning opportunities, cultural programs and social activities in order to perpetuate and advance Reform Judaism. To fulfill this mission, CNT's goals are: * to foster a warm, caring, and inclusive environment for a diverse community, including individuals, couples, and families of all types; * to provide a variety of opportunities for congregants to connect with the three pillars of Reform Judaism: Torah, Avodah, v'Gimilut Chasidim (study, worship and acts of loving kindness); * to support the State of Israel and K'lal Yisrael (the Jewish community) through membership in the Union of Reform Judaism and World Union for Progressive Judaism; * to promote a positive relationship with members of other religious traditions. Ms. Lois Zellers In 2006, we expanded further on many of the projects begun in 2005 as we continued our transition from a "Mom and Pop" style of accounting to an accounting system worthy of a $28 million facility with over 600 member families. This last year was especially cha llenging in view of the fact that we had to project revenues and expenses during our "wandering" period - the time that we were in temporary offices and conducted services at King David. 2006 reflected a period of fiscal conservatism, under the leadership of Marla Letizia and Harry Sax, where we instilled a culture of living within our means, catching up on old debts, and putting into place measurement tools to monitor our financial performance. In that regard, reports were put into place to monitor our cash position on a weekly basis. Additional contro ls were implemented in the areas of accounts payables, inter-company transfers and IT security. The general ledger chart of accounts was completely reworked to reflect more common business accounting practices, as well as to provide more meaningful controls and reports segregated by responsible individual. In the third quarter of 2006, we began the most difficult budgeting process in CNT history. A completely new set of spreadsheets, reports and procedures were developed to provide administration and lay-leadership better information about what they were responsible for, and how their areas performed in 2006 as compared to 2005. We also had to forecast line items for 2007 for a facility we had never operated (such as utilities, security, engineering and maintenance); revenues and expenses for new departments such as banquets and catering, pre-school, etc.; as well as projecting membership growth in an area and a building that we had no historical frame of reference. For 2007, we wi ll continue to refine our accounting system in areas such as reporting, chart of accounts, automation of routine procedures and budgeting. A complete budget analysis w ill be performed on a quarterly basis to true up our projections as we obtain better historical information about our building and membership. Greater emphasis w ill be placed on each department's performance as compared to budget to identify varia nces from forecast early on and make timely corrections as appropriate. All of these accomplishments were a result of some fantastic leadership from Marla, Harry, and our Rabbi, to name a few, and to the dedication and hard work of the Board, dozens of volunteers and the CNT staff. I am confident that CNT is ready for the substantial membership and financial growth that our new Temple wi ll bring. .,. ....
