PAUL (MARION) MILLER ?╟÷She Got Ulcers and Abuse SHE HAD one child when this ulcer-producing tension began (she now has three), and finally she landed in a hospital for treatment of ulcers. And, mind you, she got out of the hospital to fly to Washington to testify against a few of the ?╟úimportant?╟Ñ local commies before the Subversive Activities Control Board, and it was her testimony that convicted them. PAUL MILLER, her husband, has also been honored similarly for his 20 years voluntary service to the FBI, working undercover to learn the inner workings of the Communist underground. Marion modestly discounts the work that has been done. The Resolution was moved by Councilman Karl L. Rundberg, seconded by Rosalind Wyman, and adopted unanimously by the members of the Council. In accepting the Resolution, Paul Miller very modestly said that they were accepting not for themselves but for the ?╟úlittle people?╟Ñ of the United States whose love and devotion for their country can be depended on in: any crisis. Such recognition of ?╟úlittle people can only happen in America.?╟Ñ,Responding to the resolution echoed her husband when she said she and her husband were not accepting for themselves but for ?╟úthe many nameless heroes who were adventuring their lives in this struggle for survival.?╟Ñ Marion Miller was presented on Ralph Edwards" TV program and millions listened to the fascinating story of the mission of the Millers as undercover agents gathering evidence at the risk of their lives as members of dangerous subversive organizations. THE WHOLE Jewish community has reason to be proud of these intrepid spirits. Their patriotic and self-sacrificing service performed in imminent peril of discovery and the summary vengeance of fanatics who hesitate at nothing, reflects the spirit of the Psalmist?╟╓s words: ?╟úThe Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear??╟Ñ Paul and Marion have been showered with invitations by patriotic, social and service clubs to tell their fascinating story. To appreciate the dangerous assignment this little woman accepted for her Country, you must go back five years, drive across town with her as she attends a commie meeting and gihelps^ the conspirators get out tons of propaganda?╟÷pamphlets and leaflets by the thousands?╟÷but always keeping a record (for the F.B.I.) of ?╟úwho, when and what.?╟Ñ HER INITIATION came in a letter inviting her to a meeting of the ?╟úLos Angeles Committee for the Foreign Born?╟Ñ shortly after she and Paul moved here from Florida to raise a family in a quiet, happy home. Knowing the working methods of Communists, Paul's suspicions were aroused. ?╟úWhy should the foreign born of this United States need protection??╟Ñ he questioned, and suggested Marion attend. What she saw and heard both appalled and frightened Marion. The Millers talked to the FBI who urged the seemingly naive housewife to attend further meetings. That began the five terrible years that endangered the young mother?╟╓s health and life. THE END did not come with her flight to Washington to testify for the government. The vindictive Reds flooded their neighborhood with a mimeographed letter vilifying Mrs. Miller as ?╟úan informer?╟Ñ with no reference to the Communist party (nor her service to the government). It was signed by the Los Angeles Committee for the Foreign Born. To this day, this experience is recalled with sadness. Close friends and neighbors failed to recognize the truth. The boys in the trenches got shrapnel, but Marion Miller got ulcers and abuse. Her service to this nation has been commended by President Eisenhower, .Vice President Nixon and J. Edgar Hoover. In the past 48 months many of the most responsible organizations of proven 100 per cent Americans have expressed gratitude.
