Minutes 4/29/90 MEMBERS PRESENT; Bea Levinson, Chair Sherm Kerner Barbara Kirsh David Gross Ruth Urban Bill Feldman Sandi Walton Heeling called to order by Chair Bea Levinson. Bill Feldman passed out the publication by Jewish Federation's national organization for us to review. Bea asked Bill about tasks outlined in the minutes. Bill had given Ruth the job descriptions, staff names and salaries. Recording to Bill the job descriptions are what staff are projected to do starting 7/1/90 in conjunction with the new budget. Ho flow chart - per Bill, everyone reports to him. Bill displayed a stack of requests for services that came In to JFSA from clients or potential clients for services since our last committee meeting, Sandi Walton volunteered to categorize requests by the next meeting. Sherm reported on the cover letters formulated to survey clients, Sherm requested some input on the survey sheet itself. Sherm discussed his conversation with Ruth about simplifying the survey, Bill produced a survey from Toledo, Ohio JFSR and the committee discussed the merits of that survey versus the survey that was sent to everyone from Broward County, Florida. The committee discussed the possibility of using a report card type survey versus a survey of current and future needs. Regarding the survey, Sherm suggested that Bill should pick the sample of clients rather than himself as Bill is more familiar with the clients. Sherm discussed using color coded paper to emphasize areas clients have used, i.e. counseling. Sandi volunteered to help Sherm and Bill with the survey, Discussion about the cost of mailing. Sherm brought up the possibility of the Jewish Reporter printing the survey to save mailing costs, Discussion Discussion about the two cover letters for the survey of former clients. Decision to combined both letters by using the first sentence from the second letter and place it at the beginning of the original letter. Bill provided a list of current services offered by the agency, A lengthy discussion ensued relative to the services listed which Included the foI lowing services: Counseling with individuals and families Life supportive services Psychiatric aftercare Resettlement for refugees Counseling services Jewish big brother Adopt i on Homesharing/Las Vegas match CHISS Case management CHISS Is an acronym for Consumer Housing Information Services for Seniors Discussion about present services. Bea wanted to know which of these services are currently being offered and on what level. Bill explained the staffing and more specifics about the programs listed above. Discussion about finding out how many clients are actually served In the service areas described so the LRPC could determine how utilized each services is. Ruth requested data for the last 90 days. Bill will try to obtain this information. Sandi suggested Bill continue the survey of phone calls at least through the duration of the LRPC meetings. Regarding the services referenced above, Bill provided more detailed information about specific services. Presently there are fifty (50) volunteers. Family life education is a traditional program but it Is not in place due to lack of funding at this time. There have been three adoptions in three years. Homesharing, Las Uegas match and CHISS are senior programs. 2 Meeting Minutes April 24, 1990 Goal3 were set for the next LRPC meeting by Chair Levinson: flay 22 7:00 PM date of next meeting (Ruth will be gone) Report from Sherm's subcommittee on survey Rough draft action plan Sherm will mall out 3urvey draft to committee and take a phone consensus. Barbara will contact Federation ASAP to check on their willingness to use the Jewish Reporter for the survey. Bea asked for comments on the United Way report that Bill mailed to us before this meeting on the Las Vegas 2000 project. Ruth commented on the stress on volunteer ism. David said their mission statement could be ours, Also he was surprised by their Donor as the consumer emphasis. Dave pointed out they emphasized the need for accountability for further funding. Discussion about United Hay's allocations and where JFSA fits in. Dave talked about his perspective as a board member of United Hay. He said United Way's getting Jewish donations by advertising JFSA prominently in their literature. Bea suggested one of our meetings be devoted to Funding in the Long Range and that this be our goal for the June meeting, Ruth suggested Dan Goldfarb and or Dorothy Eisenberg be invited to that meeting as they serve both on the Boards of United Way and Federation.
