1990 JEWISH FAMILY SERVICES LONG RANGE PLANNING COMMITTEE Minutes 2/21/90 MEMBERS PRESENT: Bea Levinson, Chair Mini Kats Isabel Goldberg Sherm Kerner Barbara Kirsh David Gross Bernie Kaufman Ruth Urban Bill Feldman Meeting called to order by Chair Bea Levinson, She discussed the purpose of and need for a long-range planning committee. Lengthy discussion about a mission statement. The committee decided to use the following mission statement as a working mission statement for the committee and propose to the Board of Directors that this be adopted as the official statement of the agency. Jewish Family Service Agency is a non-sectarian family counseling and community service agency. JFSA provides individual and family counseling and "life supportive" services to the Las Uegas community and the Southern Nevada area, promoting and strengthening healthy family life. The committee reviewed the previous long range plan to see if the goals had been met. For the most part It appeared the goals had been let. David Gross suggested that we look at Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, a community of similar size and demographics to see what their Jewish Family Services Agency developed in their long range plan. Bill Feldman will obtain this information. David will check with the Broward County (Ft. Lauderdale) Federation about their long range planning. Barbara Kirsh will contact Federation about their demographic study and about their long range planning manual. She will also ask President Hal Ober for a Federation member for this committee. 1 Long Range Planning Committee Meeting Minutes The committee decided to meet monthly with the goal of four months to present a final report to the JFSfl Board of Directors. Bill Feldman recommended Sand! Ualton be added to the committee to represent single parents. The committee agreed. The committee also agreed to have the minutes typed up and distributed to Federation President Hal Ober with a cover letter from Bill Feldman. Sherm Kerner suggested all material to be reviewed to be sent out In advance of the meeting and the committee concurred. Ruth Urban volunteered to serve as the recording secretary since no one else begged to do it. Each member discussed their reason for being on the Long Range Planning Committee and Chair Levinson wanted to make sure each member could make the commitment to follow through with this project. The subject areas the committee defined for L.R.P. are as follows: Facilities, staff (administration) services, program, funding, public relation, outreach and community education. Sherm and David volunteered to work on funding and budget. Barbara volunteered to work on services. Ruth will work on staff and Bea will work on program. Bill Feldman promised to provide Ruth with the current Personnel Practices Manual, position descriptions and salaries. Bea will get Ruth the Bureau of Labor Statistics salary scales for Southern Nevada both for private and pub Iic agencies.
